What is ISO 50001
ISO 50001 (or ISO 50001:2011) is the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) energy management systems specifications which was released in 2011.
Best Practices for Energy Management
The newly promulgated ISO 50001 new standard defines the best practices for energy management. Flow monitoring with thermal mass flow meters will play a significant role, particularly as worldwide acceptance of the new standard continues to grow. Typical applications include combustion control and compressed air monitoring in a variety of industries including Textile, Glass Manufacturing, Automotive, Aluminum & Steel, Food & Beverage, Pulp & Paper, Power, Chemical, and Refining.
Thermal Flow Meters Support ISO 50001 Standards
Sage Metering provides both easy-to-install insertion thermal mass flow meters, as well as in-line meters, with built-in flow conditioners that provide outputs and meet the reporting requirement for ISO 50001 standards. The Sage direct mass flow meters do not require separate temperature or pressure transmitters, have no moving parts, are highly accurate and repeatable, and have a negligible pressure drop. Furthermore, the Sage Thermal Mass Meters have extraordinary rangeability of at least 100 to 1, as well as fast response. In addition to the 4 – 20 mA control output of flow rate, the flow meters also provide pulsed outputs of consumption, in conjunction with fully Modbus compliant RS485 RTU communications, ideal for sophisticated energy management systems.
Sage also offers a remote-style flow meter, with up to 1000 feet of lead-length compensated cable, to provide the opportunity to monitor the mainline from a distant control room, where the electronics and powering are performed at the transmitter – yet, the probe or flow body simply has a terminal junction box. Optional wireless Modbus outputs can also be furnished, as an option, if necessary. Furthermore, Sage flow meters offer convenient diagnostics, and the ability to conduct an in-situ calibration check. The unique Sage In-Situ Calibration assures that the flow meter retains the original NIST traceable calibration, along with verifying the meter’s accuracy. It also confirms that the sensors are clean and the flow meter hasn’t drifted or shifted. This is a tremendous benefit to our ISO 50001 customers, as it eliminates the cost and inconvenience of annual calibrations on flow meters.
ISO 50001 defines best practices for energy management and the use of thermal mass flow meters can ascertain gas flow rates to comply with recommended practices.
