We are excited that Bob Steinberg, Sage Metering President, and CEO, was recognized and selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who for his dedication to engineering.
There is no doubt that Bob deserves this acknowledgment. Not because of his accomplishments as an entrepreneur, engineer, or author or since his company just celebrated 20 years in business. But because he’s kind and acknowledges that his achievements stem from his colleagues’ endeavors and successes, for which he’s grateful.
Inventor at Heart
Encouraged by his grandmother’s response to him fixing her radio as a young child, Bob Steinberg became fascinated by the inner workings of things, particularly electronic devices. He found joy in inventing various gadgets, including a handcrafted baseball game. In fact, the Monterey Herald recently featured his inspirational story.
His fascination for what makes things tick guided him to Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where he attained a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in 1971.
Bob Steinberg spearheaded a quantum leap in performance.
His company, Sage Metering, was established in 2002 and is a leading manufacturer of high-performance digital mass flow meters. Sage was the first to introduce a hybrid-digital bridge circuit rather than the traditional Wheatstone bridge in a thermal mass flow meter. This technological breakthrough provided a quantum leap in flow meter performance, with no drift, improved resolution, and long-term reproducibility.
New Markets for Thermal Mass Flow Meters
Sage swiftly introduced the first practical on-site calibration verification method. This advance opened new markets for thermal flow meters. With users being able to verify that the meter remains in calibration, the meter could now be used in environmental applications for greenhouse gas reporting per EPA regulations and quantifying carbon credits per U.S. carbon credit protocols. In addition to expanding markets, the calibration method saves the users time and money by not having to remove the meter and return it for annual calibrations.
Business Management Author
Bob is the author of The Triple Play of Business: A Strategy for a Healthy Company (Dorrance Publishing Co. 2020). Using baseball as an analogy for the challenges of a successful business, Steinberg guides the entrepreneur toward fostering a productive and interconnected work environment between management and employees.
Entrepreneur Accomplishments
While Bob is well-regarded for his contributions as an entrepreneur, he cherishes that he’s given his colleagues a sense of accomplishment, appreciation, and value in their careers. Throughout his career, he has always strived to exhibit the virtues of honesty and integrity above all else.
Among his other achievements, he is grateful that Sage Metering has won three Innovation Awards from P.I. Process Instrumentation (2011, 2012, 2016), a bimonthly publication that serves professionals in the process instrumentation industry.
The Personal Stuff
Bob Steinberg credits his resourcefulness, tenacity, enthusiasm, and intrinsic ability to overcoming adversity. Looking toward the future, he plans to continue sustaining the current Sage Metering trajectory and volunteering more for local community service. He also aspires to dedicate more time toward his hobbies—skiing, tennis, and biking—and to his wife, Janet, who has long stood as one of his most significant sources of inspiration.
